The Heyweiler Farm Mill Another weir and the ditch of a mill dike announce us again a mill. And so we soon arrive at the Heyweiler Bauernmühle, where the members of the cooperative of the village situated on the heights ground their own grain. In this mill there was a serious accident in 1933, as reported by the Boppard newspaper on July 11 of that year: "In the cooperative mill located in the Baybach valley, a serious accident occurred on Sunday, to which the farmer Friedrich Wetzlar from Heyweiler fell victim. While changing the drive belts, he was caught by the comb wheels, which crushed his chest, so that death was instantaneous." We encounter the former mill building in a well-preserved condition, but judging from the closed shutters, it can be assumed that it is not permanently inhabited. The open fireplace in front of the house and the large quantities of neatly stacked firewood betray the recreational use of the property. Then the "alpine part" of our Baybach trail slowly winds down. The rugged cliffs become fewer, the wooded slopes gentler. We are still completely under the impression of this wildly rugged valley gorge, which is well worth seeing. However, it must also be said clearly that this part of the Bay is not accessible to everyone. As much as one would like to grant all hikers this great natural experience, those who are not good on foot or also not free from vertigo should avoid this area of the valley. Although the narrow footpath is somewhat secured by hand ropes in some particularly difficult places, there are still numerous dangerous spots to negotiate.
