Kolbenstein Forest Youth Center The Kolbenstein Forest Youth Center is a forest and natural history information and recreation center. In 1989, the Schutzgemeinschaft Deutscher Wald Rhineland-Palatinate opened the Kolbenstein Forest Youth Center. A former forest service farmstead - located on a large forest clearing in the Rhine-Hunsrück region between Emmelshausen and Boppard - had been converted and furnished by the SDW into a forest youth center. After 15 successful years of operation, the facility was expanded and modernized in 2005. 34 sleeping places in one- to six-bed rooms are available. The building services in Kolbenstein are environmentally friendly. The forest youth home has its own plant sewage treatment plant. A solar plant and a wood pellet heating are responsible for the warmth. The Schutzgemeinschaft Deutscher Wald Rhineland-Palatinate and the Landesforsten Rhineland-Palatinate jointly manage the forest youth home.
