Schwengelbrunnen
Brunnenstrasse, 56283 Morshausen
The old Schwengelbuur was built in the 15th century. At that time a Hungarian countess married to the Ehrenburg. She brought with her servants and maids from Hungary, who settled around the castle and in the Ehrenburg valley. This countess donated the Schwengelbrunnen to the municipality of Morshausen, which at that time was obliged to provide services for the Ehrenburg. To commemorate her homeland, it was built in the style of Hungarian pusta fountains. Since the countess was called Maria, the fountain is often called "Maria Buar". The women of Morshausen held their washing day at the well. The laundry was bleached and dried on the adjacent meadow. Today, the Schwengelbrunnen still stands in the Brunnenstraße as a reminder of that bygone era. Since then, the wooden construction has been renewed at regular intervals by the municipality.
